Perth Region NRM Strategy 2011
The 2011 Perth Region NRM
Strategy is now available for download. The Strategy was
presented to the Perth Region NRM Board in November 2010.
KEY VALUES OF PERTH REGION NRM
Key values that Perth Region NRM brings are:
- Coordinating and engaging a wide range of stakeholders across
government, community and business.
- Leveraging of significant additional funding.
- Better alignment of total state NRM investment through
development of regional NRM strategies and business plans,
including jointly agreed NRM goals and targets that materially
assist the achievement of state NRM objectives and targets.
- Multi-level alignment of NRM targets across local government,
government agencies, land owners, the community and business.
- Provision of advice to communities and businesses from a
state-wide perspective.
- State-wide collaboration with an independent voice through the
NRM Regional Leaders Group.
- Local delivery of national and state NRM strategies and
plans.
- A cultural influence that brings local communities and
community groups together to significantly invest in delivering
state NRM objectives and targets.
ENVIRONMENTAL PRESSURES
Fundamental pressures causing environmental change include
urban, peri-urban and industrial
development, and the day-to-day activities of industries and the
population. This causes
damage to natural resources and in some cases destruction. In the
longer term, climate change
will also affect the region's natural resources.
But this is not necessary. One can argue that in future the
world's most successful cities will be
those with the richest natural environments. Institutional
cleverness and 'integrated land use
planning' is key to achieving this.
