What does the strategy aim to do?

The Strategy aims to ensure that the natural resources of the Perth region will be protected and managed sustainably for the enhancement of the quality of life for present and future generations.

The Strategy provides direction for future investment in NRM by the Australian Government, the Western Australian State Government and the regional community.

2004-2010

The 2006-2008 Investment Plan received government approval in June 2006. Both the Strategy and Investment Plans can be downloaded from the Perth Region NRM's Investment Plans page.

The Swan Region Strategy for Natural Resource Management (NRM) written under NHT presented a 50-year action plan for a coordinated approach to NRM.

The Strategy received Australian and State Government accreditation in December 2004.  The strategy defines specific mid and long term targets, which subsequent investment plans are based upon.

Investing in Natural Resource Management

Perth Region NRM's investment in Natural Resource Management is guided by the targets and principles outlined in the Swan Region Strategy for Natural Resource Management (2004). The strategy defines the mid to long term goals. These goals are translated into practical, strategic and specific programs and projects for the Swan NRM Region, through investment plans.

The investment plans typically focus on 1 - 3 years of investment, and are based on the following four programs: Integrated Water Management; Natural Diversity; Sustainable Production and Coastal and Marine to deliver outcomes for Natural Resource Management (NRM).

Development of investment plans are based on significant input from key stakeholders, particularly via Perth Region NRM's Reference Groups. These key forums provide an important mechanism for engagement and consultation with well over 100 key stakeholders.
