Tools for Integration: Priority Issues Table

Minutes and Agendas from Geographic Reference Group meetings in 2008-2010 have been analysed, and Key Issues from these meetings have been collated into a Priority Issues Table. This table is a tool that shows the work the Reference Groups have completed, and maps the progress of the groups.

Furthermore, this table is a living document, and is reviewed after each Reference Group meeting.  This is done by clearly stating the issues the group wish to deal with at the Geographical Reference Group level. In addition, the group can develop actions and link them to Federal, State and Regional Targets, whilst developing responsibilities and timelines to ensure progress is made by the Groups by the end of the year.

The result will enable the reference groups to identify where more work needs to occur and hold Perth Region NRM and its Reference Groups accountable to the Targets and Vision.

Priority Issues will be managed under the following headings:
• Program and Reference Group - the PRNRM group that the issue was raised by, and program it belongs to (South RG is in Community and LG Engagement).
• Priority Issue - The 'umbrella or headline issue' (likely to link directly to a Target).
• Specific Issue -  the umbrella issues can be quite broad, so this defines exactly what it is about the broader issue that the group is focussing its attention on.
• PRNRM Target - From the Strategic Overview; target that the Issue links to.
• Federal and State Targets - Targets developed and funded by Federal/State Government that link to the Ref Group Target.
• Internal Links (PRNRM Reference Group links) - other Reference Group working on the same or similar issue.
• External Links (other Organisations, Local Governments), - Organisations investing in solving the issue.
• Actions and Projects required - What the Reference Group plans to do to address the issue.
• Lead Responsibility - Who will take ownership of the Actions and report back to the Reference Group.

Tools for Integration: CPR

Configurable Program Reporting (CPR) is a database being developed to store information about Programs and Projects to ensure improved NRM outcomes in the Perth Region occur.  Initially, the database will be maintained by Perth Region NRM.

Tools for Integration - Role of Coordinators and Chairs

The Theme-based reference groups, are made up of experts in the field they are representing (ie Water Management, Biodiversity, Marine).

The aim of the Theme-based reference group is to examine how to manage specific NRM issues, which in most cases will be important issues in various areas across the region.

The Theme-based Reference Groups are working to develop Program Logic that will illustrate the various pathways that are collectively needed to direct the group to identify the specific issues and targets for the Region. Generally, the actions from the Geographic Reference Groups will feature in the Logic produced by the theme-based reference groups.

It is the role of the Reference group coordinator and Chair to ensure that:
• All issues from the Geographic Reference Groups are linked to the 'theme-based programs'.
• All Actions from the Geographic Reference Groups are completed and outcomes communicated across Reference Groups.
• Any relevant information, programs and projects from any Reference group meeting are communicated to the other RGs effectively.
• Agendas reflect the issues that the Geographic Reference Groups are concerned with.
• All Issues raised at Geographic Reference Group meetings are tracked and progress towards resolving them is made.
• The work that is being done is meeting the Vision, Goals, and Targets of the NRM community in the Perth Region.
