Bull Creek Water Quality Report 2010
Bayswater Main Drain Water Quality Report 2010
Bennett Brook Water Quality Report 2010
The 2010 Water Quality Reports for Bull Creek Catchment, Bayswater Main Drain and Bennett Brook have now been completed, as part of the Water Quality Partnership Project, by SERCUL and a number of Local Governments. These reports provide the Local Governments and the Swan River Trust with information required to manage and improve the water quality in their drains and catchments, particularly in identifying nutrient and toxic hotspots.
The aim of the Water Quality Partnership Project is to promote a cooperative approach to water quality monitoring activities across the Swan Region. More specifically, this project assists stakeholders such as local governments to assess their water quality data requirements and provides assistance to prepare sampling and analysis plans, undertake actual sampling activities and finally to prepare the reports.
The reports give a detailed analysis of the water quality as well as provide a number of recommendations for management activities. These can include how to deal with polluting industries, and nutrient sources from a range of land uses. Without this information important aspects of improving the Swan and Canning Rivers could not be completed.
Unfortunately, the Water Quality Partnership Program will not continue under current Caring for our Country funding past the 30th of June 2011. Perth Region NRM's Integrated Water Management Reference Group is preparing an 'integrated water monitoring framework' for all sources of pollution so we can bid for funding gaps from a range of funding programs. We will continue to work with SERCUL, the Local Governments and the Swan River Trust to try and get replacement funding for this very important work. It is vital that we get support to continue this monitoring.
Perth Region NRM would like to thank Monica Estrada and the team at SERCUL, the participating Local Governments and Dominic Heald at the Department of Water for their excellent work and dedication to the Water Quality Partnership Project over the years. Their professionalism and hard work have resulted in excellent reports that have significantly helped tackle sometimes difficult pollution issues affecting the health of our precious rivers, streams and wetlands.
