Resource Efficiency for smaller Wineries - A practical model in action - In Partnership with the Wine Industry Association of WA

This project is a partnership between Sittella winery and Perth Region NRM to develop winery / vineyard best management practices (BMPs) and a production based software system for the wine industry. The focus is on enabling smaller producers to produce wine in a more sustainable way.

Resource Efficiency for Smaller Wineries 

 

What the project involves:

- Perth Region NRM has developed a software package that monitors and manages all aspects of production from the vine to wine. This will be trialled and developed further at the Sittella winery.

- Monitoring of energy and water use in the vineyard and winery to establish energy and water use throughout different production processes is being conducted.

- Soil moisture probes throughout the vineyard will determine the appropriate level of irrigation.

- Workshops will be conducted on-site, though more importantly workshops can be held at any venue of choice as the software system in use at Sittella will be available online with updates on energy and water use updated every 15 minutes.

- A greenhouse gas calculator designed for the wine industry will be developed further and showcased in this project.
